Volvo Car Malaysia Teases 2017 S90 and V90, Launching Tomorrow!

Volvo Car Malaysia will be unveiling not one, but two highly-anticipated models tomorrow. The first model is the new S90 followed by its estate sibling, the V90. Both models were caught on camera earlier

Making its debut in 2016, the Volvo S90 is designed to be Volvo's flagship saloon. The V90 arrived a couple of months after the S90. Like the XC90, the S90 and V90 is based on Volvo's new SPA platform. Whilst it is unlikely that the T8 Twin Engine-powered S90 and V90 will arrive here, we are fairly certain that Malaysian-assembled units will come in both T5 and T6 AWD flavours.

The T5 variant of the Volvo S90 and V90 receives a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine that pushes out 254 hp and 350 Nm to the front wheels via an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission. This allows the S90 T5 to hit 100 km/h from a standstill in just 6.8 seconds. As for the heavier V90, the century sprint is completed in 7 seconds flat. Both models top out at 230 km/h.

Then there's the T6 AWD variant of the duo. Here, the 2.0-litre engine is twin-charged, thus churning out 320 hp 400 Nm. Drive is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission, much like its front wheel drive sibling. The extra ponies allow the S90 T6 to achieve a 0-100 km/h time of just 5.9 seconds, whilst the V90 completes the same sprint in 6.1 seconds. Top speed is 250 km/h for both T6 Volvos.

A Volvo is not complete without its extensive suite of safety equipment. We can expect both the Volvo S90 and V90 to feature City Safety, Park Assist Pilot, 360˚ camera, Pilot Assist, large animal detection, Active High Beam and blind spot monitoring.

For those wanting a little bit more flair can opt for the R-Design package. Unique to the R-Design models is a stiffer suspension set up, lowered ride height and retuned steering. The R-Design Contour seats, steering wheel with paddle shifters, carbon fibre inserts and Charcoal headlining are also bespoke. Visually, R-Design models can be identified by their gloss black front R-Design upper and lower grille, bumper inserts, 21-inch alloy wheels and twin mufflers that blend nicely into the rear bumper. The hero colour for R Design models is Bursting Blue.
