50 Years Merc-AMG: Past & Present DTM Legends Meet

Videos

We always complain that cars are no longer made the way they used to. Mercedes-AMG has released a video tackling this opinion head on by pitting its DTM race drivers from past and present against each other in their respective cars.

From 1990 is Karl Wendlinger who brought a 190E 2.5-16 Evo II, his last DTM racer in what was a lengthy racing career that also included stints in Formula 3000, Formula 1, Le Mans, and the FIA GT championship.

The 190E Evo II made its racing debut on 16 June 1990 at the Nürburgring competing in the DTM and it too enjoyed a distinguished racing career, finishing third in the Championship on its debut year and winning it outright in 1992 driven by Klaus Ludwig.

The roadgoing version of the 190E Evo II was powered by its famous Cosworth-tuned engine rated at 235hp; a significant upgrade from 195hp managed by the 2.5-16 Evo I. Top speed was 250 km/h, and 0 to 100 km/h completed in 7.1 seconds.

Fast forward to the present, is Maro Engel with the latest Mercedes-AMG C63 DTM; unlike the turbocharged road-going model, the DTM version here is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.0-litre V8 and is enhanced by other modern stuff such as carbon brakes and multi-function steering.

Which is the better car? Watch the video to find out.
