New 2017 Volvo V40 with ‘Thor’s Hammer’ Lights Launched, RM180,888

Volvo Car Malaysia today unveiled the updated Volvo V40 T5, now with the latest Inscription trim and featuring a few subtle yet significant updates that make the hatchback look more like its larger 90 series siblings.

The most prominent feature of this new update is the new Inscription grille mesh cradling the new Volvo Iron Mark and the much anticipated ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights.

  • Engine: 2.0-litre turbocharged, in-line 4-cylinder petrol
  • Power: 245 hp @ 5,500 rpm
  • Torque: 350 Nm @ 1,500 to 4,800 rpm
  • Transmission: 8-speed automatic
  • Price: RM180,888 (OTR without insurance)
  • Assembly: Locally assembled in Shah Alam

Headlights and grille aside, other additions to the exterior include the new Inscription “rank mark” which was first introduced in the XC90, and the 17-inch Sarpas wheels.

The Inscription grade, in which the V40 is offered as standard here in Malaysia, is the highest among three trim levels (besides Kinetic and Momentum) available in Volvo's global portfolio.

Inside, the cabin is decorated by Milled Aluminium trim, replacing the previous model's Shimmer Graphite inlay and a new Inscription tread plate has also been added.

It is said that the new Volvo Iron Mark update will carry across the entire car including the steering wheel, Sensus display, and the key fob.

The hatchback also comes with Volvo’s CleanZone technology which not only filters incoming air but also cleans the interior air of harmful particles, removes unwanted odours, and removes any germs, and also other potential triggers of allergies.

Under the hood, the V40 T5 Inscription will maintain the brand’s Drive-E powertrain which produces 245hp and 350 Nm of torque which is sent to the front wheels by an 8-speed gearbox, enabling the car to do the century sprint in 6.3-seconds.

Safety features on the other hand includes City Safety which comprises Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Collision Avoidance and Mitigation technologies, Park Assist Pilot, Cross Traffic Alert, BLIS, regenerative braking, and ESC with Advanced Stability Control with Dynamic Torque Vectoring on top of the usual features.

Priced at RM180,888 (otr without insurance), customers will get to choose four exterior colours for the V40 - Ice White, Onxy Black, Osmium Grey, and Luminous Sand (new).

“In Malaysia, the V40 is our best-selling model after the XC90 making it a very important car for the company. We hope that the new updates in the V40 T5 Inscription will make this very successful model even more attractive to customers within this segment,” said Lennart Stegland, Managing Director, Volvo Car Malaysia.

Available in only one variant for the moment, Volvo Car Malaysia also indicated that it will be releasing the V40 T4 at a later date, and that is not all, as the Polestar performance package is also available upon request at an additional cost of RM59,999.
