2017 Peugeot 2008 Puretech Launched in Malaysia – 1.2 Turbo , RM110k

Nasim is on a product offensive this year, with 5 models to be brought to market over the next few months. The first two of these models are the 208 Puretech and the 2008 Puretech, both of which were launched today. The new Puretech models represent a large powertrain upgrade over the previous 208 and 2008, as the turbocharged 1.2-litre 3-cylinder engines replace the older 1.6 direct injection engines.

Prices and Variants

The 2008 Puretech is locally assembled up north in Kedah, and it goes for RM 109,888, on the road, with insurance. Much like the 208 Puretech, the 2008 Puretech is made available in a singular specification. With the Puretech models also come a lot of changes- the 2008 Puretech has a redesigned front grille, new LED headlights and the ‘3 Claw’ LED tail lights.

On the inside, things are fairly similar; main features such as the heads-up instrument panel (not to be confused with a heads up display), the 7-inch touch screen (now with updated software), and the compact steering wheel make a return. There’s also a panoramic sunroof to add a sense of roominess.

Safety is also accounted for. There are 6 airbags, ESP, ABS, EBA, and EBD. Peugeot also likes to talk about its very high strength steel body structure, which helps with crash safety as well.

Engine and Transmission

The new Puretech engine is part of the global trend of downsizing and turbocharging for better fuel efficiency without compromise. The turbo 1.2-litre 3-pot engine makes a solid 112 PS and 205 Nm of torque from just 1,500 rpm. This is down by 10 PS at the top end but up by 45 Nm across the range when compared to the previous 1.6-litre powertrain.

The Puretech engine is paired with a new 6-speed automatic transmission from AISIN as well, with tiptronic overrides. The claimed fuel efficiency for this engine is 4.2 litres per 100 kilometres, which is a fair bit better than 6.7 litres per 100 kilometres for the outgoing engine.

Rivals

There are plenty of options to choose from when it comes to compact crossover vehicles, but the 2008 Puretech will be the second of the bunch to feature a force-inducted engine (the first being the Renault Captur).

The most popular choice as it stands is the Honda HR-V, although there are also options like the Ford EcoSport and the Mazda CX-3 for buyers to choose from.

Equipment

The 2008 Puretech comes fairly well equipped.  The 7-inch touch screen gets an update for 2017 with a slightly better operating system. It’s paired with the Arkamys 3D audio system that sports 6 speakers.

  • USB/Bluetooth
  • Dual zone climate control
  • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
  • Electronic Brake force Distribution (EBD)
  • Electronic Stablity Control (ESP)
  • Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
  • Anti-Skid Regulation (ASR)
  • Panoramic Roof with blue mood LED lighting
  • Hill-Start Assist
  • ISOFIX

For all models launched from 2017 onwards, including the 208 and 2008 Puretech, Peugeot vehicles are covered by a 5-year / 120,000km manufacturer-backed warranty. To encourage early adopters, the first 100 customers are additionally offered a 3-year / 60,000km free service programme. These come on top of existing benefits that include 3 years 24hr Roadside Assistance, access to the Peugeot Lounge at Subang Airport, and Peugeot Privilege membership.
